Police in Las Vegas have issued a warrant to obtain a DNA sample from Cristiano Ronaldo as part of an investigation into allegations of rape against the footballer.

Investigators want to know if the player’s DNA matches that found on the dress belonging to Kathryn Mayorga, an American woman who accuses him of raping her in Las Vegas in 2009.

Ronaldo has repeatedly denied the allegation, calling it “fake news” and claiming they had consensual sex.

A warrant to obtain the DNA has been sent to Italy, The Wall Street Journal reported, where Ronaldo, 33, now plays for the Serie A side Juventus.
