America’s large delegation to the annual gathering of global leaders in Davos has become a casualty of the US government shutdown. President Trump called off his trip yesterday, saying he was too busy dealing with border security.
Mr Trump, who addressed ministers, royalty and chief executives at the Swiss resort last year, was due to be joined by eight cabinet members for the five-day meeting starting on January 21. He was also expected to hold talks with Wang Qishan, vice-president of China, who is leading his country’s delegation, amid efforts to resolve the dispute between the world’s two largest trading nations.
“I intended to go and speak in front of the world’s financial community at Davos,” Mr Trump said, before sending his excuses on Twitter.…
