Britain’s only Afghan-born female barrister was forced to drop a case after a solicitor told her the client wanted a “white male” lawyer.
Rehana Popal, an immigration and civil law specialist barrister at 10 KBW chambers in the Temple, described tweeted on Wednesday that she “just had a solicitor call to tell me … the client has said he doesn’t want an Asian female but a white male barrister”.
Ms Popal, who was called to the Bar five years ago after graduating from university with a degree in international politics, wrote that she had initially been instructed in the case but that it had been adjourned owing to a lack of judges.
