A 94-year-old man has been murdered during a robbery at his home in South Africa.
Jimmy McGlinchey, a retired Scottish businessman, was beaten and strangled after burglars broke into the house in the city of Pietermaritzburg by forcing a kitchen door.
Mr McGlinchey’s body was discovered by his housekeeper, who alerted neighbours before police were called. The pensioner, whose wife recently died and who lived alone in the wealthy suburb of Hayfields, was declared dead at the scene last Wednesday. He is said to have been found naked with strangulation marks on his neck and bruises on his body.
